YEAR 6 MATHS SATS

Small Groups of 2 - 3 Children

I tutor Maths to prepare children for the SATs tests taken at the end of year 6. Whatever your child's level extra tuition is really beneficial. If children are struggling with maths, tuition can really help fill gaps in learning, boost confidence, raise attainment and thereby help children to reach the expected standard level. Or, for the more able pupils, it can help them to exceed the average level of attainment, which will improve their predicted GCSE grades at secondary school.

Children working towards their SATs are tutored in small groups of 2-3 pupils from the same year group. I do an initial assessment where I assess your child using the national curriculum attainment targets. This enables me to tailor my lessons to each child’s individual ability, and work is then differentiated within a small group to ensure a very personal learning experience. This also helps me identify any gaps in their learning to ensure knowledge gaps are found and addressed early.

The year 6 SATs test consists of three papers. An arithmetic paper and two reasoning papers, which include problem solving and topics such as shape and measures. I teach all these areas of the curriculum to make sure your child is fully prepared for their tests; and I also do practice papers to familiarise your child with the tests and to assess progress.

Whilst I endeavor to achieve your child’s highest academic level, I do not believe in pressurising young children and I also aim to keep lessons fun and engaging. Tuition, above all else, should be a positive one, increasing your child’s confidence, where everyone feels proud of their achievements.

I keep parents informed of progress and give honest appraisals of your child’s ability.
